“101 Ways to Have Fun With A Young Child!”

Here's a collaborative parenting project:

“101 Ways to Have Fun With A Young Child!”

Add your fun ideas by clicking the comment link. Feel free to write a few words to explain the idea with some detail. See my example in #1. We will continue the numerical count to 101…

1. Go to the park: Every city has one somewhere. Mark on a calendar where the closest one is to you and where other children play. Playing at the park offers your child socialization opportunities and physical outlets. It also tires them out before nap time!

  1. 2. Get a large plastic bin (like one you would store under the bed with shoes or clothes in it) and fill it with uncooked white rice. Give your child scoops, spoons, funnels, blocks, small toys, etc. to hide in the rice. Have them look for teh items, or pour the rice into various cups, let the rice slide between their fingers. If doing this project inside, place a large sheet on the floor, so you can justgather up dtray rice on the sheet and pour back into the container. This teaches all sorts of things, even fine motor skills.

My son is 2 and LOVES this project. And ever since bringing the baby home from the hospital, I have had to find games/projects to keep him busy while I tend to the baby. He will play for a relaly long time with this!

  3. 4. We check out songs (via youtube)that I enjoyed growing up. We dance and sing along. My daughter requests "I like to move it" all the time. We have also discovered new songs like "bananah."

  4. I love to play with made-up words and silly syllables with my nephews, 6,5 and 3 yrs old...
We sometimes roll on the floor laughing, it becomes THAT fun! For ex: I'll say (in a wonderfully silly and changeable voice) --"i just danced and then goober and turtle ice cream banana fanana monkeys! right?"---and the laughter begins!
