Collecting Ephemera

Do you like to save old letters, tags, concert stubs, pictures, and bits of history that may or may not have a clear origin. If so, join our Flickr group dedicated to this very thing. I started it years ago and it continues to grow daily. See below for a discussion on what is "ephemera." Join in...

What Constitutes Ephemera?

clipped from www.flickr.com

Hi, just joined this group. The definition of the term Ephemera can vary. The UK Ephemera Society quotes its founder, Maurice Rickards ‘the minor transient documents of everyday life’. This is often translated in books as ‘everyday throw-away paper articles’. They go on to illustrate their web site with items that clearly were not intended as transitory.
The Ephemera Society of America web site provides a much more broad definition which includes photographs.
Basically, anything on paper (incl a toddlers scribble then??!!). I think the whole thing is very loose and at times leaves me personally feeling uncomfortable with current definitions.
